StudyTrust Bursary Applications through the Web Platform

This online platform is for students who are already studying at tertiary institutions and will be continuing with their studies next year i.e. 2nd, 3rd, final year undergraduates and postgraduate students.

Our online application platform, powered by, is programmed to apply the selection criteria of the various funders to the data supplied by applicants. Applicants are guided by a chat interface to register and provide relevant personal and academic information. Application page

At the end of the screening process, the system will inform applicants on their eligibility.

You will be notified by email about the progress of your application and regularly reminded that information is missing until the application is complete

StudyTrust awards bursaries and scholarships based on academic merit, financial need and according to the requirements of individual sponsors.

Applications: More General Instructions

  1. Applications, online and hardcopy, must be submitted before 30 September to be considered for a bursary for next year. Applicants already enrolled for degree programmes are encouraged to complete their applications earlier to be considered for opportunities as they arise.
  2. We only consider applications completed in full, with all the required supporting documents uploaded or included.
  3. We only consider applications from South African citizens, with the exception of certified refugees who may apply for the Albert Einstein Scholarship for Refugees (DAFI) for which StudyTrust is the UNHCR implementing partner.
  4. Please apply timeously for admission to the educational institution of your choice.
  5. Please also apply for a NSFAS-administered DHET bursary here if you qualify – when they open.

  7. You ONLY need to complete one application.  You will be considered for all the bursaries that you qualify for. However, apply for as many other bursaries as possible. A list of available bursaries can be obtained from Khetha.


Bursary selection is based on academic potential, financial need and study programmes. Bursaries are available for:

  1. University students (undergraduate and post-graduate) studying full-time in critical and scarce skills programmes.
  2. University of Technology students studying full-time, with a pass symbol in all subjects, studying towards careers in demand by the labour market.
  3. Full-time students at Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Agricultural Colleges.

Applicants must specify the exact name of the study programme, the name of the educational institution and the start and end dates of the study programme.

Document Checklist

Key information provided in the application must be verified and we need documentary proof to be uploaded. Please get the following documents ready to upload when asked or attach to hardcopy applications:

  1.  South African ID (certified)
  2.  A full academic record including the latest available results up to June 2020 examination results (if available)
  3. Official Matric/NSC results if you have completed Grade 12 or final Grade 11 results and June report card (if available) for current Gr 12s.
  4.  A testimonial by an Educational Official.
  5.  Proof of income: Your combined household income must not exceed R750,000 per annum. It is essential that proof of income for both parents (if applicable) be uploaded. This could be:
    5.1  Salary or wage slips of the parent(s) or guardian(s)
    5.2  An affidavit from the parent(s) or guardian(s) stating that they are unemployed or self-employed. If they are self- employed, the affidavit must state their annual income.
    5.3  Most recent audited financial statement or three months most recent bank statements if the parent(s) or guardian(s) own a business
    5.4  SASSA letter stating the grants received in the household where applicable
    5.5  Death certificate(s) if parent(s) are deceased
    5.6  Letter from the court stating child support amounts if parents are divorced or an affidavit from the parent stating the child support amount received if parents are separated
  6.  Your CV.
  7.  A clear head and shoulders picture of you.

The StudyTrust Application form may be downloaded for completion by applicants for first-year bursaries applicants and applicants without internet access only! The completed form with requisite documents should reach StudyTrust on or before 30 September 2020.
