Santam Bursary Programme
In an effort to create a conduit for critical and future fit skills in the financial services sector with the focus in the Short Term Insurance Industry, Santam Limited, South Africa’s largest general insurer, established the Santam Bursary Programme as part of its Skills Development Academy.
The Santam Bursary Programme intend to produce a steady stream of skilled, capable and high calibre graduate learners with core technical skills, and behavioural and leadership competencies. This in return makes bursary opportunities available to young talented individuals studying in areas such as actuarial science, agriculture, underwriting, hydraulics and insurance assessment. The initiative was established to ensure Santam builds a talent stream and South Africa has the required skills to grow our economy.

WHO CAN APPLY?
Students pursuing a Postgraduate Diploma, Bachelor’s degree, Honours degree in:
- Actuarial, Data Analytics, Data Sciences, Statistics
- Agriculture
- Civil, Geomatics, Mechanical Engineering
- Construction
- Insurance Technical Accounting, Economics, Finance, Mathematics
- Risk Management
BURSARY DETAILS
The bursary will cover costs (capped) for the following:
- Registration/Tuition fee
- Accommodation (Deposit, admin fees, etc.)
- Learning material (Books, e-Manuals, etc.)
- Laptops
- Monthly allowance
- Travel/Transport allowance
SELECTION CRITERIA
The main criteria used in the selection of successful applicants are academic potential and motivation for a career with Santam.
Applicants must have achieved an average of 65% and above for their undergraduate degree and in the latest examinations (mid-year/June).
Specific criteria applies to Agricultural applicants. Please see the details below before considering your application.
HOW TO APPLY
Applications must be completed online before 30 September 2024 to be considered for a bursary for 2025.
Only applications from South African citizens will be considered.

CLOSING THE SCARCE SKILLS GAP
Santam has been focused on creating a pipeline of students that will support Santam’s Agri efforts through specialist knowledge transfer. We want to close the scarce skills gap in Agriculture Crop insurance by growing talented students organically through vacation work and practical exposure in underwriting, sales and relationship management.
IF YOU ARE AN AGRICULTURE BURSAR AND/OR GRADUATE YOU CAN EXPECT:

a career journey, with a rolling forward approach (the intent is for graduates to be permanently retained as trainee area managers);
- to automatically participate in the graduate programme;
- to participate in vacation work;
- to be allocated a mentor;
- to be invited to relevant business engagements/conferences, as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- 2- or 3-year Agricultural studies with focus on crop production
- Agricultural degree/diploma with plant production and/or
soil science as preferred subjects - Microsoft Excel skills
